Each year in October, the ATO makes a lot of noise about the obligation to lodge tax returns by the 31st of October.
Frustratingly, this poorly executed messaging causes unnecessary stress for more than 50% of the population who lodge their tax return through a registered tax agent.
Those people who lodge through a registered tax agent are generally not required to lodge by the 31st of October. In fact, the due date more most individuals lodging through a registered tax agent is the 15th of May 2025.
Not only is the lodgement due date later, the payment due date for any tax liabilities arising is also deferred by lodging through a registered tax agent.
Using a registered tax agent not only extends the deadline, it also means that your tax return is expertly prepared and that you receive guidance to maximise your tax position whilst minimising your risk of falling foul of the ATO.
