Australia’s digital identity service myGovID has announced it will soon be known simply as “myID”.

myGovID is the smart-phone app that is used as part of the login process to access an extensive range of government systems, including myGov.

The decision to rebrand is intended to rectify the ongoing confusion caused by myGovID having been named so similarly to myGov.

The rebrand to myID will be purely cosmetic, with no change or disruption to the use and functionality of the service.

Updates to the myGovID app should happen automatically.  Login details will remain unchanged and users do not need to take any action.

Whilst the rebranding is welcome, one can’t help but wonder why it has taken the government this long to take action to clear-up the ongoing confusion.
