PAID FAMILY & DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LEAVE FOR SMALL BUSINESS

Back in February we wrote about the new Paid Family & Domestic Violence Leave which gives full-time and part-time employees access to up to 10 days of paid leave in each 12 month period.

The leave first became available to employees of non-small business (<15 employees) employers from the 1st of February 2023, with employees of small business employers gaining access from the 1st of August 2023.

In addition to the information available on the Fair Work Ombudsman’s website, the 10dayspaidfdvleave.com.au website, commissioned by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, is a great resource to help small business employers get up to speed.

Family & domestic violence is a very serious issue and it is important that employers understand their role in supporting those it affects.

We encourage all employers to take the time to get up to speed with the new leave rules.

Beyond understanding the new leave rules, employers need know how to respond appropriately to help affected employees to access the support they need.

A good place for employers to start is to check out the resources available from the national domestic, family & sexual violence counselling, information and support service – 1800RESPECT.

And if you have any questions or need help with the new paid family & domestic violence leave, please get in touch.
